This flower pattern is taken from an old Estonian knitting book, published in 1957. I kind of like it, and I’m sure I’m going to use this detail somewhere else.
But the gloves are knitted from Rowan Pure Wool 4ply. The photo is taken by my dear friend Laura, who has taken a lot of my photos before, and hopefully will continue doing it in the future

Koigu gloves

Last week was very happy for me – I got some new yarns to work on new knitting ideas. So today I had to organize my stash, because our tiny apartment is not a good place to storing them

There is a lot of Koigu KPPPM (fabulous colors, right?), some Koigu Kersti and a few skeins of new Koigu Bulky

I ordered some Malabrigo Alpaca Lace yarn for a special project:

When I started knitting years ago, I mainly bought cheap acrylics for knitting socks, hats and mittens. Partly because I didn’t have much money to spend on yarn, but most importantly I didn’t understand the difference between acrylics and high quality natural yarns.

Now I better spend on quality, because the knits fit better and last longer. Koigu has been my favorite for several years now, mostly because of their gorgeous hand painted colors. I also have a fantastic co-operation with them, I have designed two garments for their knitting magazine.

Malabrigo also has a special place in my yarn box, and some Fyberspates yarns just can’t be resisted

It is a glorious, coffee-table size book of knitted lace, Estonia and a binding love between the two. Not a simple pattern book, and certainly not a project book, but a time capsule into a far off world where the soul of a people is captured in the hands that guide the needles to create the indigenous patterns of a rich heritage. The photography capturing this world is rich and the drawings and charts make the techniques and patterns close to a hands-on learning experience.

I knit them in 2010 from Koigu Mori yarn. The gloves have a new owner since then, all I have left is this photo.
Now someone would like to knit them and I’d be happy to provide the pattern, if I had one. But I don’t remember from where I took the lace edge pattern and I’m not very good at constructing patterns with only a photo on my hands.
All I know is that there were 10-12 stitches on one needle. Probably 12.

So if someone recognize this pattern or have an idea how it was made, please let me know! Someone who wants to make them will be extremely thankful, and once the mystery is solved, I promise to complete the pattern and list it as Ravelry download for free!

Actually they were knitted some weeks ago, but now I finally got time to buy beads. Ribbon is still missing, I hope to get a nice one next week.

Lotus Yarns Pure Cashmere is still one of my favorite yarns and if I had a lot of money, I would knit only this But it costs about 3 times as much as the yarns I usually knit.

Those gloves have the same pattern as my Romantic Lace Gloves.

Really, I haven´t seen something SOOOOO beautiful for ages! Visit the link, there is even more.
Unfortunately it is not possible to find out who made them, there is only a note that the sweaters are hand knitted in Germany.
The price is also pretty challenging, around $1400-$1600, but I don´t find it much for handmade item, which requires a lot of work, time and skills. Plus handmade items are luxury products anyway, so not everyone has to be able to afford them (this is just my personal opinion).

A few days ago there was a discussion about handmade and prices in one Facebook group, where most people stated that it is not possible to get a fair price for handmade items, because then no one buys them. For me, it is always sad to see if someone sells a pair of hand knit gloves for about $10, which hardly covers the cost.

I am sure that people buy Gorsuch sweaters despite of their price, so be unique and passionate, prefer high quality materials to cheap acrylics, invest into good photography and then a dream of being a full time artisan may not be impossible to accomplish.
