Crochet granny square blanket

Maybe you remember a granny square blanket I crocheted a few months ago. It was in a perfect size for babies and I started new one soon after this one was finished, with an obsession that we need one to our own home too.

I made blocks of granny squares in different colors:

It is crocheted from Rowan Pure Wool 4ply, only green yarn is Debbie Bliss Rialto 4ply.

Fabric flowers and summer hats

About 8 years ago, when I was pregnant and bored at home, I started crocheting children’s summer hats.
First to my own son, but soon some of my friends and their friends ordered also and it kept me busy during the summer before the childbirth.

Although I now mostly knit, I have been doing crochet hats since then and try to offer something new every summer.
So this year, the hats are decorated with fabric flowers instead of crochet flowers.

It’s very easy to do that – you just need a hot glue gun and some silk ribbon. I cut circles out of felt sheets and glue the ribbon on it, starting from the edge and moving to the center. Add a beautiful button or some beads and it is ready to be added to the hat, headband or hair pin.
Some days ago I finished those:

Flower Fingerless Gloves

Looks like I haven’t posted about the flower fingerless gloves I made last season. Unfortunately they didn’t get very popular, so I decided not to continue with making them.

This flower pattern is taken from an old Estonian knitting book, published in 1957. I kind of like it, and I’m sure I’m going to use this detail somewhere else.
But the gloves are knitted from Rowan Pure Wool 4ply. The photo is taken by my dear friend Laura, who has taken a lot of my photos before, and hopefully will continue doing it in the future :)

The last discounted pair can be found here.

Another pair of cashmere gloves

I just finished my third pair of cashmere gloves – green this time. My local yarn store didn’t have right beads with right colors at the moment, so they don’t look as outstanding as pink gloves, but I still like them so  much.

Unfortunately it was my last skein of cashmere yarn… Which doesn’t mean I won’t buy new amount :)
There is something I like about Lotus Yarns Pure Cashmere… It’s texture, colors, the way you feel while knitting something so luxurious.
If anyone knows a good place where to buy this yarn online, please let me know!

Some new stash from my favorite yarn brands

Last week was very happy for me – I got some new yarns to work on new knitting ideas. So today I had to organize my stash, because our tiny apartment is not a good place to storing them :)

IMG_20130430_140314There is a lot of Koigu KPPPM (fabulous colors, right?), some Koigu Kersti and a few skeins of new Koigu Bulky

20130427_12255420130427_12262720130427_12252820130427_122652I ordered some Malabrigo Alpaca Lace yarn for a special project:

20130427_122510When I started knitting years ago, I mainly bought cheap acrylics for knitting socks, hats and mittens. Partly because I didn’t have much money to spend on yarn, but most importantly I didn’t understand the difference between acrylics and high quality natural yarns.

Now I better spend on quality, because the knits fit better and last longer. Koigu has been my favorite for several years now, mostly because of their gorgeous hand painted colors. I also have a fantastic co-operation with them, I have designed two garments for their knitting magazine.

Malabrigo also has a special place in my yarn box, and some Fyberspates yarns just can’t be resisted :)

Win a “Haapsalu Shawl” knitting book

Woolmint has a new Facebook campaign going on at the moment.

As soon as we reach 600 fans, one lucky winner will receive a “Haapsalu Shawl” knitting book as a gift!

It is a glorious, coffee-table size book of knitted lace, Estonia and a binding love between the two. Not a simple pattern book, and certainly not a project book, but a time capsule into a far off world where the soul of a people is captured in the hands that guide the needles to create the indigenous patterns of a rich heritage. The photography capturing this world is rich and the drawings and charts make the techniques and patterns close to a hands-on learning experience.

For participating, simply join Woolmint’s Facebook community :)

Help needed!

il_fullxfull.160762298I struggle here a bit with those fingerless gloves that you see on the photo.

I knit them in 2010 from Koigu Mori yarn. The gloves have a new owner since then, all I have left is this photo.
Now someone would like to knit them and I’d be happy to provide the pattern, if I had one. But I don’t remember from where I took the lace edge pattern and I’m not very good at constructing patterns with only a photo on my hands.
All I know is that there were 10-12 stitches on one needle. Probably 12.

So if someone recognize this pattern or have an idea how it was made, please let me know! Someone who wants to make them will be extremely thankful, and once the mystery is solved, I promise to complete the pattern and list it as Ravelry download for free!

Just leave a comment here or write anniki@woolmint.com, thanks!

Ideas for upcoming fall and winter season

I know that most of you have summer in your mind (at least I do, it’s still cold and snowy in Estonia), but fashion designers are way ahead of this season and their fall-winter 2013-14 collections are published.

I’m pleased to see that there are a lot of beautiful knitwear in different collections, to inspire us – hand knitters :)
